Ondo Police Apprehend Ex-convict Who Stole 35 Vehicles

Ondo State Police Command, yesterday, paraded a notorious car snatcher, Mr Adeyemi Adeoye, for alleged vehicles’ theft in Ondo State. Adeoye, was arrested with two other suspects for stealing three vehicles at different locations in the state capital, Akure.

The two other arrested suspects – Ayeni Paul, a tailor and Abiola Anifowose, who is a vulcaniser, were members of the same car snatchers’ gang. Mr Adeoye, who was an ex-convict, was arrested and paraded alongside his colleagues before newsmen at the police headquarters in Akure.

The police said police detectives from Lagos State had earlier nabbed the principal suspect in September 2016 after he was trailed to Akure for stealing some vehicles. It added that the 28-year-old notorious car snatcher, who specialised in stealing CRV Honda Jeep cars, had stolen no fewer than 35 vehicles.

Femi Joseph, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, said the suspect had been apprehended twice by the police for car theft. Mr Joseph specifically noted that Mr Adeoye, was nabbed at Shasha market in Akure, while trying to steal a Toyota Corolla car with registration Number- SS 719 AAA.

He said that the suspect and the other two men conspired together to sell the stolen cars at the rate of N700,000 only. “Luck ran against him (Adeoye) at Shasha market when he attempted to steal a Honda jeep belonging to one Mr Olanipekun that was driven by his wife. “The report immediately got to us and we arrested him and he was taken to our station where he truly confessed to numerous vehicle thefts in the state. “He told us he has his own master keys and he would cleverly enter into a vehicle, switch it on and make away with it and he really specialises in stealing CRV Honda cars”, he said.

The police image-maker, bemoaned that the culprit had been a regular criminal over car thefts in the state. “The most saddening part of it, is that sometimes, he was arrested for stealing cars but we are always shocked to see him again anytime we charge him to court. “We always charge him to court on our own part but we are always surprised to see him coming back to the society again, trying to do what he knows how best to do.

“He has been arrested twice, and charged to court but you would be surprised that this man would come back again”, he said. Joseph, however, vowed that the arrested culprits would be charged to court and be made to face thorough prosecution.
